5 Tips for Photo Holiday Cards (Giveaway from Minted)!

CONTESTS, REVIEWS & CONTESTS | | November 13, 2013 at 9:01 am

I used Minted.com for my Holiday cards a few years ago and since then I have tried several others and can safely say that Minted has the best quality of cards. It is why I am extra excited to work with Minted this year and I can’t wait to share my amazing holiday cards with my friends but also give one of my readers a chance to do the same.

I have family and friends in a few countries and this time of the year is my chance to stop and send a hello to them.

1. You can be that professional!

While professional pictures are undoubtedly wonderful, you know your family better and around more, so capture the candid moments. Once you experiment with lighting (keep it natural), angles and just take loads of pictures you will learn as you go. Even with a regular smartphone you will be shocked at the picture quality.

2. Start early!

Keeping a folder of “maybes” throughout the year. You can never tell which picture in the year will feel like a keeper. That one picture that represents the essence of what your family is about. Storage is so cheap these days so it is ok to collect tons of pictures, but just be sure you sort them with proper labeling to find easier.

3. Don’t be afraid to edit!

Editing does not have to mean making your picture look fake. Often with editing you can “clean” up a picture or highlight it in a way to focus on what you want. Crop, tune and even add text. Sometimes that perfect pic has someone else’s head in there, so crop it out and make it perfect. In editing don’t forget filters, black & white and background fading which all make a huge impact on the picture.

4. Who says it has to be just one perfect picture?

If your kids are like mine, getting everyone to pose in a pic is hard. Also sometimes you have that perfect pic of one that you love and want to use, so feel free to be done with all your editing etc and then collect all to put in a collage. Since my distant friends and families don’t see the kids they relish collages since they get to see more than one pic.

5. Natural trumps posed any day!

You don’t need to be all dressed and perfect to have the best picture. My favorite pictures are those disheveled but with happiness oozing out. It is those pictures that make me smile each and every time I look at them. In fact one of my favorite pictures is one where we are all lying in bed taking a morning cuddle.

Minted already had my heart, but then they went and created foil pressed holiday cards. I know!  Now to help my amazing readers out (thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading) I am giving a lucky reader a chance to win 50 foil cards with liners and labels from Minted. I promise you that these are brag worthy!
