Making Merry In A Mess! (Win Prize package including $50 gift card) #BleachItAway

CONTESTS | | December 11, 2012 at 9:38 am

CONTEST CLOSED!

Congratulations Vickie!

My husband and I have engineering backgrounds, needless to say remodeling our home is not our forte. Of course while I embrace my deficiencies, hubby would not lay claim to it. To this testament is the several “oops” holes on my walls. I have a toilet roll holder permanently broken for maybe 3 years, and counting. When the ugliness of our kitchen had taken its toll on both of us, we just decided to get one that day in IKEA. Of course warning bells should have sounded when the people of IKEA raised their eyebrows when we just said “We’ll take it today!” (and they are not so easily stunned) but we were not going back.

So we are currently 2 weeks and 4 days without a kitchen and we will have to make merry as the kitchen is not set to be complete until after Christmas. Yay, us right? Of course at first I embraced it with spunk by setting up a “workstation” as I would be cooking and nodding with a familiar “Carry on people, I got this covered!”attitude. Well day 1 and I broke down. No sink! No sink, people! How do normal people carry on without a sink. I threw a tantrum and hubby reminded me that it was just the 1st day. The same way he reminded me when I had a meltdown after my first day as a Stay At Home Mom (apparently I was the only one who was driven crazy when a baby would cry who has napped, been fed, changed).

So I am hanging in there but the rest of the house is not. Apparently my kids want me to make lunch every day (yeah, I spoiled them rotten about quality food) and the introduction of paper goods helps so little that I wonder if it is worth killing any more trees over it. So there are messes I am turning a blind eye too (trying to at least) as visions of my new kitchen keep me sane but the holidays is a sucky time to do it. I am long ago made my peace with the dust-bunnies and we co-habitat side by side, ignoring each other, but weird thing about drilling walls and cutting up wood is that it makes the regular dust pale in comparison. Even a slacker mom like me has some standards, plus dust floating in my drink is a total turn-off.

So in-spite of there being picture day panic and the erratic tune of Winter school concert, we are surviving. My kids are begging us no more errands, and I think this Sunday’s 2 Home Depot trips in one day is the straw that broke the camels’ back. Honestly, who could blame them. Tempers flaring and it is difficult to maintain your sanity with the fact that we decided to paint the entire house. Yeah, that! But here is the one thing I have been trying to keep “normal”, amidst the boxes of unopened IKEA boxes and the partially put-together cabinets is a little table area I set for each meal. I wipe down the table, pulling out a new sheet of Clorox wipes, out of the canister knowing that cereal is not eaten with sawdust.

This is exactly what I do with their desks before they get ready for homework because frankly I don’t want to have to explain to a teacher why their pages are messy. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I still get the eebie-jeebies when I talk to a teacher even though I no longer go to school. And just incase you were wondering I was a stellar student, I mean you don’t just become an engineer not being one.

The normalcy for the little area keeps even my daughter with Autism, who craves order, in check. Of course I think score for mama and then the kiddos ask “When can we put our tree up?”! Good question my dears but your guess is as good as mine!

Clorox want you messiest moment, luckily there is a reward for sharing. When you share your messiest moment at www.bleachitaway.com you have a chance to win $15,000 and more! Daily prizes of a $50 gift card will also be awarded. Plus, every single entrant will receive a coupon for $.50 off any bottle of Clorox® Regular-Bleach via email for the first moment they submit.

But I have something for you too!

So I have a messy moment, but I know I am not alone. I hope for your holidays you were smart not to take on such a huge remodel but I guess a mess is a mess. So to make myself feel better, I want to hear your messy moments. What? You don’t to share??? Come on, how about I bribe you for them? My biggest messy moment, excluding the kitchen, is when my kids touch paint or markers. They know exactly how to touch my hot buttons as they make a mess everywhere. So I thought I will give you stuff that I love to hate (but I allow my kids to do it anyway coz walls are just walls, right)  and then give you a “zen” so say  sorry for it. Oh, and a gift card to smooth over any rough edges in case the bubble bath and scented candles don’t do it.

Want to win a pair of  a holiday package from Clorox (including a $50 gift card).

Package includes:

  • Bubble bath
  • Scented candles
  • Finger paint
  • Markers
  • $50 VISA/Amex gift card

My merry Mess is my boys bathroom on any given day. Honestly, I can’t understand how aiming to hit such a big hole is so hard? Maybe my lack of understanding comes from the fact that I sit to do my thing…

Our biggest nessy moment occurred when we were painting the interior of our former house. We’d put some paint in one of those “convenient” cardboard buckets they have at the paint store. All was good until my sweet husband picked it up and the bottom broke out, yikes!

Frying always creates a mess. If the chicken or fish wasn’t breaded enough, the excess moisture will cause large oil bubbles to burst and send hot oil flying all over the place.
