A birthday gift for me!MY VIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | October 11, 2012 at 8:41 am
Today I turn 40! I do! I own it! No regrets at all. I don’t want to be a day younger. I mean that truly. I love being 40. I love the journey here and I look forward to the journey from here. So this year I wanted something different. I wanted something more. Something that is precious to everyone. I wanted: time. I created an invitation that I wanted my present to be bloggers donating their time volunteering at Room To Grow with me. Room to Grow is a non-profit organization that helps children born in poverty from 0-3 years.
Guess what? The event filled to capacity. These friends were eager to do something with no sponsors or swag. I was beyond happy, in fact I wished we were allowed more people in the group, which was less due to space issues at the organisation. Then Sara at Eventbrite saw the event and wanted to treat the bloggers to lunch after it. Seriously how could I not feel prouder about my friends in this social media space.
Best. Birthday. Ever!
Special thanks to:
Room To Grow: for doing what you’re doing in the community.
Eventbrite (Boston): Thank you Sara for volunteering and also for opting to treat the bloggers to lunch after at Tico’s
And my fellow blogger friends, thank you for giving me a few hours in your life:
and my darling girls who gave me up for the day and my sweetheart Ramesh (who happens to have a birthday on the same day as me).
