The New WebMD Baby App Launches! (Win an iPod Touch Valued at $200)

I still remember being pregnant while I was an engineer and though there were few people I could share my excitement and fears with (engineering is just not rife with moms or even women for that matter) I delved into the online world. I ate up progress charts of what was going on inside me and could visualize the changes happening even if I could not directly see everything. I wondered if my mom even thought of these subtle changes at each step or was just swallowed whole in the regular rigmarole making up her day.
For me it was a tribute to my yet unborn child, spending time knowing what will be happening in each trimester made me feel completely part of the process. Yes, I even had the corny ticker tape on my email with a countdown to the birth. I also went deep into message boards to be part of a community so I could see the questions we never dare ask our doctors. There were no smartphones, but there is now. Along with those amazing apps for the smartphone I have been excited to hear about the WebMd Baby app. I could oh so easily see a mama-to-be hovering over that app and also new mamas too.
Sometimes being pregnant feels easier with the baby in you and when the baby is in your arms you are more overwhelmed at taking care of a new baby. The WebMD Baby App provides you with pediatrician-developed content.
Sure this mama’s days of new baby are over (someone better tell my 4 year year old to stop sneaking into my bed) but here are some of the main features of the new app that I have learned of:
- Personalized and pediatrician-approved health and wellness information for baby and toddler to keep new parents one step ahead of their baby’s growth and development, anywhere and anytime and enables more informed pediatrician visits. For babies 0-1, a new health and wellness tip is sent to the app every day, as well as more in-depth content every week. For babies and toddlers ages 1-2, information relevant to their age is sent to the app monthly.
- Streamlined search capabilities that help parents find immediate, trusted answers to their baby health and wellness questions with physician-reviewed answers. Information is organized by easy-to -understand topics (feeding and nutrition, growth and development, vaccines) and by the baby’s age, simplifying a parent’s search for trusted answers to immediate baby health and wellness questions.
- Baby routine and record keeper that gives parents and caregivers a snapshot of baby’s health and wellness by allowing them to easily record and share baby’s routine (feeds, diaper changes, sleep). A personal growth chart for baby/toddler is also integrated into the app allowing information to be easily added right from the pediatrician’s office.
- Baby book feature that allows parents to capture baby’s memorable moments including baby’s “firsts” with videos or photos taken on the spot or pulled from their iPhone library. Baby book memories can be shared with family and friends through email or Facebook as they happen

I should win this prize (the black one, though honestly I wouldn’t say no to the white one, either!!) because I currently use an ancient iPod Shuffle which holds about 5 songs, and the camera on my Android is broken. So I could bring a whole new level of awesomeness to the world with this iPod Touch.

oh this app is wicked. I really truly wish I had this app on my itouch when I WAS pregnant. Seriously. This app would have kept me from being caught at work for using working hours to read web pages on pregnancy. I did have a widget on my google page that counted down the days and showed what baby’s progress would be depending on the week. but that was so not enough info. Now that the kids are toddlers, this app would be awesome. I’m always late with checkups. Last year I was actually late with vaccines. having a 2 year old and a 3 year old toddler running around makes it a bit difficult to always be on top of my game. I can see where the WebMD Baby App would help and I’d even be able to pay for a premium version just to keep on track. But, I no longer have an iPod Touch, so winning one would be extra cool too! I would love to win this! I have one of the original iPods and I can’t even download books to listen to on it. I would love to be able to check my e-mail and go online while I’m away from home with something that I can carry in my pocketbook. This would also be great to use while I’m waiting for the kids at practice or dance class.

But after have access to a friend’s iPad and iPhone (and the Android apps on my entry level cellphone) I’m excited about these digital Swiss army knives. My 14-year-old daughter saved her allowance for a year, and bought an itouch.
The first day she was bumped and the itouch fell on the sidewalk.
It still works, but there’s a large spiderweb all over the face.
