It was a wonderful excuse to get out of the house and head to Newbury Street in Boston for the T-Mobile holiday mixer, but even better that I got to host it. I love any excuse to get together with fellow blogger friends so I was more than thrilled when T-Mobile asked me to host it. Of course I was lucky enough to give 2 phones away on the blog as well which was a treat for my online friends.
So on a rainy night we gathered to listen to the wonderful team at T-Mobile. What I loved was that these guys knew their stuff because this is what they do day in and out. So after we munched on yummy food (I had arranged several items for the food table but my favorites were eclairs and salmon cheese rolls) we started to browse the store with the T-Mobile guys helping us out. It was wonderful to look at the various devices especially the tablets.
I actually remember T-Mobile (they were my first mobile provider) from the VoiceStream days and the one thing I could always attest to was the best customer service so I was not surprised seeing how clued up the staff was. So not only did they answer our regular questions, but they devised little contests to see what we knew about the latest gadgets. I appreciated doing these little activities because it was interesting to see if I could really navigate a phone other than one like my own. I was surprised at how logical the arrangement of apps were, and yes as an engineer those things are easily noticeable to me.
Of course finding apps like Angry Birds, checking in on FourSquare, taking a picture, calling someone etc is part of what would be the norm so it was good to see that this was just a small part of what we were doing on the new MyTouch smartphones. Holiday shopping is always a bit stressful and I love these questions from T-Mobile because WE ALL know how it is to get stuck in a rut after we made a purchase we regret.
Here are some key questions to arm yourself with before your purchase and make sure to review with any sales associate:
- What does my rate plan cover?
- What kind of speeds/data am I getting?
- How much will my monthly payments be and/or other charges?
- What’s the exchange/return policy?
- Is my/my recipient’s home and workplace covered by your network?
- What are roaming charges?
- What are your warranty/insurance policies?
