Reading Is Fundamental Celebrates 45 Years!

I love reading. In fact I have been so obsessed, yes obsessed, with reading that it used to be a pain point in my home. I would be on my way to do something else, and see something (anything) and start reading and forget to do it. Yes, my parents would go crazy as they found me time and time again reading stuff. I was so thirsty for new stuff, since I grew up in a rural township, that I would read (and re-read) any scraps of anything I found.

Needless to say that reading allowed me to escape into a special world where anything was possible. It also makes sense that reading is one of those things that is really important to my children. Nothing makes me prouder than listening to both my 4 year old and 6 year old read.

I am also excited to mark the 45th anniversary for Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) with this post.

 About Reading is Fundamental:

Founded in 1966 by Margaret McNamara with a group of Washington, D.C. teachers, RIF remains steadfast in its mission to provide every child with adequate access to books and literacy support so that they may discover the joy of reading. Since its founding, RIF has placed over 380 million free books in the hands of underserved children nationwide and the organization’s efficient and unique model for book distribution has been proven effective.

Disclosure: I will be getting an Inspiration kit with a book and bag, which I am happily donating to a local school.

I am a huge supporter of RIF. I remember how exciting it was when I was in elementary school (a million moons ago) to get to pick out a book for free. It was like the highlight of the school year. Haha. :)
