Pumpkin Growing Contest?

MY VIEWS | | May 30, 2011 at 7:13 pm

It is only May, I know. Mommy Niri is normally behind so how come I am talking pumpkins in May instead of October? My wonderful neighbor Jerelyn thought of this fabulous idea to get a few of us in the neighborhood to join in a friendly pumpkin growing contest. Tell me that is not cool? To help us along (and boy with anything gardening I need all the help I can get) she turned up with seeds, instructions and mini soil packs. Anyway I said yes but since pumpkins take like forever to grow I thought why not give you an update of its progress.

Since we have the veggie box going good so far who knows we may have some wonderful produce this year.

update: once your pumpkin is ready you want to know how to prevent squirrels from eating pumkins?

Mommy Niri! I love your posts! I threw our 3 pumpkins in a portion of or garden last fall and now have about 20 plants going. I thinned them out some – but they took off in their own. Can I be your neighborhood’s foster child in this contest? ;) . Keep up the blogging. You make me chuckle. And I think we met once. At a supermarket in metrowest MA. I can’t really remember right now though where. Roche? Shaw’s? Who knows!

I would love that – I need the prodding to keep to it. Let’s share pics on the FB page. Oooh – talking about thinning it out, I actually cook the leaves. Maybe I need to put up a recipe. We just have to meet again now!

Thanks for posting this. I am surprised to hear you can cook the leaves. you will have to share the recipe. I tried growing a pumpkin once and it grew to the size of a quarter and stayed green. It was pretty sad. I am hoping for a better turnout.
