Congratulations Tabathia! When my older kid was pretty young was the first time I had heard of Charlie and Lola, and before the “where were you before” hits your tongue in my defense I did not grow up in the USA. It was at a Valentine’s special event at Borders that I found a set of rubber stamps for Charlie and Lola. Those were the days I was supper organized and they went into my stamp box. For some reason I felt they were targeted at an older age but I guess when you have a one year old everything looks like an older age. Fast forward 5 years later when I was asked if I would check them out I said yes.

Call me biased if you will but the most amazing entertainment comes from BBC (and not just their fabulous news). Charlie and Lola are no exception. The show says it is aimed at 3-6 years and with a 4 and (almost) 6 year old I would say we are slap dash in the middle of that age group. I was unsure how my kids who are obsessive about their regular shows but (again) my fears were unfounded. In fact as we speak, my older kid out from an early dismissal is watching it so I can finish this post.

The brother and sister tackle things in a gentle just sometimes funny way. Sad to say but there are too few family depictions in children’s shows today – too many have this (ridiculous) fast paced buzz with glitzy loud attractions. The stories are ones you can relate to from parties to school. I also love that there is not the meanness shown in shows (you know what I mean – those disguised as humor).

The book that comes with Slightly Invisible - has all the makings of adventure, especially with a magic potion concocted by big brother Charlie and with a bugging little sister like Lola in the mix. The dolls each say one line “I have this little sister, Lola. She is small and very funny,” says Charlie. Responds Lola, “I’m not small. I am BIG!”. Since I am not a huge fan of electronics I was glad that the sound is slightly muffled. I suggest not even letting kids know that they make a sound if you want a quieter household. The Talking Poseable Charlie& Lola Play Set is packaged in a reusable play-scene.
