CONTEST CLOSED!!

Congratulations Heather! I remember the first WordWorld on TV, it was right about the time that Super Why launched and I was excited. Now I don’t say that lightly, you have to understand both my hubby and I are staunch believers in education being important and though we are not adamant about only academic I would be lying if I did not say that it was extremely important to us. I remember seeing WordWorld when my daughter, who will be 6 soon, was just under 3 watching the show. In fact I think we watched every episode and then the reruns. Another friend and I always mentioned to each other when there was a new episode and we rushed to watch it.

Since my daughter was reading by 2 (I know not the norm and no, I did not teach her) I knew she would love it too. Children (mostly) inherit our love of things so if they see your enthusiasm around reading they will have it too. There are so many things I love about the show.

  • The characters are simple so all children can identify.
  • The colors are vibrant – I have no idea why some shows mute the colors for kids. Kids love the bright colors and so do I.
  • There are actual stories, not as if a lesson but a regular story.
  • The “world” is made of words. Now come on, how cool is that (or is it just me that gets excited about this stuff?)
  • The breaking down of words actually teach kids how to spell.
  • The visual word making up the object is an excellent way to allow kids to associate and remember later what a word meant.
  • There is no flashy scenes, no crazy dance routines – pure and simple, the way I like it.
  • There is no doubt that after watching a few (of course repeated) shows kids can pick up words and spelling too.

I just heard that WorldWorld had iPhone and iPad Apps and I loved that I could take WordWorld “to-go”. Those countless hours in waiting rooms could mean that my kid could be learning something. The App is like TV but better, thanks to the wonderful interactivity which allows the child to hear the sounds of certain objects (or characters by touching them. The kid is also asked to help the story along by performing certain activities like “build a word”. The ease of “flipping” a page on the app just like a regular book should come naturally. The app is certainly one thought through carefully as it matches the high standards from the show.

Now you don’t need a iPhone or iPad to enjoy the wonders of WordWorld fun – you can access http://www.wordworld.com/ebooks.php and in fact you can actually check out games and activities at http://wordworld.com/forkids.php
