Our Veggie Bed!

Even with the best intentions, growing veggies is a tough call. I normally promise myself that I would do it better the next year.  So when I was asked to be a state leader for the B Kind To Earth (go like them already) campaign for Earth Day, with the commitment to do something good for Earth Day on that day I felt like that was some divine intervention prodding me to try and step further in my path to eco-living.

I thought about having a veggie patch and getting the kids on board to actually take care of their harvest. When Frigidaire, where I got my wonderful dishwasher from, wanted to celebrate the fact that the Department of Energy (DOE) and the US environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named them ENERGY STAR Partner of the year for appliances they had a request for me. They sent me a giftcard to use towards something “green” and I felt this was another sign to get that veggie patch going.

The fact that both my hubby and I both come from engineering backgrounds means that we are not the best at handywork. We opted for a pre-cut version where we could put together the box with minimal stress. For around $35 at the Home Depot we managed to get a kit that will hopefully help us yield a summer full of fresh food. We can’t wait to get cracking with all the vegetables. What a wonderful way to kick off Earth Day!

I’ve always wanted to grow vegetables on my backyard, but never really had a chance to start on it because of work. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I think I’ll give it a start together with my kids to help them also be aware of how to help Mother Earth. Thanks for the suggestion.:-)
