Caillou – An Old Time Favorite! Check Out The New Toys!REVIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | April 6, 2011 at 9:37 am
Caillou was one of the earliest watched shows in my home. The funny thing was most of my friends did not like Caillou and called him whiny and I wondered if they heard my kid recently. Anyway to me he was this regular kid who just resembled the regular family in a calm way. Of course I poked around to learn more since Caillou is not a character you see gracing the toy stores and there certainly is less merchandise on him compared to many of the local characters, of course that may be due to him being from a Canadian show. I learned that although it is infuriating that his parents seem perfect (even if they have no fashion sense) is because it is from the eyes of the kid. I also learned that he is bald so as to to identify with an ethnicity but I think it is great for kids who are going through chemo to have someone without hair to identify with.
The point of having a male doll is one that I love. I have spoken about this forever but nurturing needs to not be promoted as a female only attribute. Also we have had a little Caillou doll forever and kids, especially boys, fight over playing with it.
This doll is much bigger and definitely more cuddlier. My favorite part? No batteries.
The Caillou bath toy was a winner because I was glad to have a non-princess toy grace our bathroom and more so because my girls were glad to include it. It has a boat, Caillou doll and Gilbert the cat. Supposedly you pull the string and the boat moves and though that works with me it certainly takes more effort for my girls to do it, so that is not a feature that is a winner for kids. I love build it parts for Caillou himself but others may not. So far Caillou has been playing nicely with the princesses.
Disclosure: I received these toys to review.
