Getting Back To Reading Magazines! – Win A NOOKColor!

CONTESTS, REVIEWS, REVIEWS & CONTESTS | | January 3, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Congratulations Jennifer J.

Magazines! I used to read them. Really I did. In fact I used to subscribe to several and then spent countless hours again on ones that I did not subscribe to reading in the Barnes And Noble café area. Then a kid came along and another and the scenario changed. Sure there were magazines, but it was basically those “free” magazines you get from the time you get home with the baby and by the time they stop your baby is older and you basically don’t focus on newer magazines.

The fact that I can read magazines and subscribe to them on the new NookColor means I can rediscover an old love of mine. Browsing over a mixture of trendy, intellectual, and yes trashy magazines will be just what the doctor ordered for this mama who seldom self-indulges. I am really excited about getting started on my dream collection, and the fact that I can do it and still be green is an added bonus. Newspapers are not so much my thingy as they are hubby’s, so he will be extra thrilled that newspapers can also be subscribed to and read on the Nook Color.

I have the older NOOK and although I loved it I am glad with the newer Nook Color. The best been is that I have not yet seen this new Nook frozen. But there is so much more to the Nook Color than just the color. Though I don’t want to undermine the color aspect, because that is fabulous. I have an iPad and that is (obviously) in color but I was literally blown away by the vivid color of the new Nook Color. It is so sharp and crisp you really can see an obvious difference.

My other favorite is the fact that I can read children’s books, or rather read them to my kids or the kids can read them themselves. The built animation features will make this an ideal companion for those long trips but also sturdy enough for every bedtime story.  The ebooks for kids are on the pricier side in my opinion, especially considering how fast kids go through them, but we found that these are set by the publishers itself. Although the functionality for videos is there, you can upload your videos, it would have been a wonderful advantage to have some to choose from in the e-bookstore. The expandable SD card definitely adds to flexibility and expandability.

I have been asked whether I mind that there is no 3G only WIFIversion and have to admit I don’t care for a 3G version. Even when I purchased my iPad I saw no reason to get a 3G version. I don’t feel I needed the extra expenses and most places have WIFI anyway. It seems the team at BN shared the same sentiment about wanting to keep it affordable and at $249 you have to admit it is just that.

Now here is the exciting bit for you wonderful readers. What a way to start the New Year than give one of you a Nook Color worth $249?

Giveaways open to US Mailing Addresses only.
