Where I Will Be Shopping This Holiday (No – Amazon Will Not Be One Of Them)!MY VIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | November 25, 2010 at 8:33 pm
I am a very fussy shopper. I am. I think, ponder, research and then feel I got to have it and then discuss it with hubby and before you know it he has taken the wind from my sails and I am convinced I don’t need it.
Since I decided I won’t be offering Amazon.com any of my hard earned money (trust me that is pretty tough since Amazon has been my goto place for everything from books to grocery to electronics) I thought hard about my other favorite places.
Hanna Anderson – because once you get past the sticker price shock you will realize holding your breath for sales are so worth it. From the organic pjs to the sensible soft styling for children – totally worth a store. Bonus? you can actually pass down clothing as they retain quality like I have never seen before.
Pottery Barn Kids – for the kid’s mealtime stuff which is super cute and normally of great quality. Even if I am slightly miffed at them for actually keeping Legos (yes they have started selling them) in the boy’s half (you know girls DO play with Legos and that is a bad message to send). They also focus on non electronic toys which is another plus.
Carters/Osh Kosh B’Gosh – Because seriously you can’t fault their price. That rewards program they have is super wonderful as you actually get to reap the benefits pretty quick!
Gymboree – Can you say darn cute? Seriously I have 2 girls and Gymboree has kid fashion so awesome that I sometimes fear to walk in there. The fact that their quality is top-notch too doesn’t hurt.
Zulily – Ooh-la-la – have you seen what Zulily has to offer. Beautiful quality and yet prices (they are marked down significantly) at something that I can actually afford. Warning though – the clothes are so beautiful you may become addicted. Zulily is an invitation only online store but if you need an invitations use my Zulily invitation (you can refer friends too and anytime they make their first sale you get $10)!
The Big Toy Book – because you will love their online deals and clean cut design layout. What is the clincher? Free shipping this Black Friday weekend on orders >$50 (normally free shipping is reserved for orders > $100)
IKEA – Ooh, I can go on about why I love IKEA but I covered it in my 5 favorite companies – come on now – go read it.
Overstock – I love everything Overstock. The price the quality and the shipping – max is $2.95 – yes even on furniture and get this it is often $0 for shipping – yes Z-E-R-O! My, oh, my have you seen their jewelery? Oops, I guess this one should go not just in home furnishings then.
Crate and Barrel – I love me some Crate and Barrel any day but that is my adult pleasure (have you tried walking in Crate and Barrel with 2 kids???) but their quality means I save my mommy free time to delve into their finery. Plus I love anything food and I feel empowered in there.
GAP – This is either a place you score big or nothing in there feels my age but you gotta step into GAP.
J-Crew – These guys have the best styles and the sales are pretty good always.
Rue-La-La – Love name brands (and I mean the big ones) but hate the big price tags? Rue-La-La is invitation only but you can use my Rue-La-La invitation (again you can refer friends too and anytime they make their first sale you get $10)
Barnes And Noble – I need a fix for where to get online shopping for books and other media (and shipping is free for over $25 and super-fast if I do say so myself).
Borders – in store I love the experience – the cafe does not make the best chai and why, oh, why they don’t put lids on hot drinks I never know – but the children’s area is a place you can kill time with kids – did I mention free wi-fi?
Starbucks – Because a gal needs to be fueled for those shopping runs and I love everything Starbucks!
