Chop Chop – A Healthy Food Magazine For Kids!REVIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | November 8, 2010 at 9:54 pm
I aim to be healthy – but unfortunately have not been as successful as I would have liked for myself. For my kids, on the other hand, I try much harder. I do believe kids trust us with their nutrition – and abusing that trust is tantamount to abuse. From birth they don’t have a choice of what is put in their bodies or to develop their taste for nutritious food – that is something we as parents have the most profound effect on. While still tackling some sensory aspects of food I am an avid believer in including kids in discussion about food. While my daughter dislikes the sensation, she understands the important of calcium and live cultures, and agreed to try it through a straw – so we do smoothies. In fact my kids can name a nutrient in most foods and have a pretty good idea what they do for the body – well in kiddie descriptions.
Kids are smart – and I believe we should treat them so. By just telling them to eat this and that won’t help – but by educating kids we allow them to make informed decisions – all through their life. Recently my kids have been begging to help me in the kitchen. Impatient me always intends to include them but I don’t do it as often as I would like.
When I discovered the Chop Chop magazine I was so pleased at a magazine focused of children and food. Not just any food, healthy food. From recipes to activities to tips and even puzzles. In a crisp, clear fashion the design of the magazine makes it simple to grasp the message. In fact it would not be too difficult for a child to pick up the magazine and follow along. The magazine is chock-full of information – that even I have managed to learn a thing or two. I think it makes a wonderful, and unique, gift as well.
