What Would I Say To My 13 Year Old Self?

The following post was inspired by Dove and their efforts to help make a difference in a young girl’s self esteem. Being a firm believer in the support of young girls and to ensure that they have bright futures I jumped at the chance to be a part of this campaign. They have launched the first ever Dove Self-Esteem Weekend on Oct 22nd – 24th, where one hour of your time can make a world of difference. Find more details at Dove Movement.

Life goes on. I know things look the gloomiest at this point with you having just lost your home last year and then your dad this year but you have your life ahead of you. It may be hard to even envision a future when you barely can figure out what will happen tomorrow. I know you are wondering if you should even bother with school when financial woes are looming. Dreams of college that you have carried with you forever may seem impossible but keep the faith.

While everyone will be hanging out at parties and it may seem studies are futile, they hold the key to unlocking a better future, a brighter future.  Oh, and those clowns that have been standing in the school hallways and poking fun at how everyone looks, including you, ignore them. You look great, don’t let them get inside your head. Just grin while imagining how they will look several years from now as they serve up your order as you drive up to that fast food joint in your rocking new car.

Your mom,  your beautiful mom, hug her and kiss her every day. Life is short so savor the moments with her as you cannot control destiny.  Don’t let anyone tell you not to dream. Dream big. Dream bold. When you wake from the dream, build a ladder to reach it. Know the past you choose may not be easy or comfortable at times but good things are worth the road you travel along to meet it.

Disclosure: This is not a paid campaign but Dove did send me a Dove Self Esteem Weekend Kit to thank me for being part of the campaign!
