Ruby’s School Walk – A Wonderful Book For Kindergarten!REVIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | October 26, 2010 at 7:30 am
I have drooled over the books covers by Barefoot Books before but sadly never got to read or buy any. It may just be because I am too lazy to go out of the norm to buy books – I usually get books from Borders, BN, Amazon and the school’s Scholastic lists. Anyway as chance would have it being a blogger means I get to explore things I may not approach on my own. With my daughter heading off to Kindergarten the book Ruby’s School Walk appealed so much to me. It was perfect timing to review.
What always attracted me to Barefoot Books is the colorful illustrations. Growing up in South Africa with vibrant colors and being of Indian heritage which is again known for the splash of colors I miss them in books. The fact that Barefoot Books carry a range of multi cultural books is another (thrilling) bonus. Now if someone just told me the story of Ruby’s School Walk – I would have to admit being a bit wary about whether it would be too scary for her. Then I recalled the adventures I experienced while growing up and how a big imagination is part of a healthy growth.
I love that a simple walk to school and all the crazy encounters Ruby looks hero-like. Her braveness gives kids the guts to feel more of the “I can do it” they need. The sweet yet swishbuckling story is one like you have never read. If you keep an open mind while reading it, it will be sure to open your kid’s mind to explore further.
Disclosure: I received the book copy to review!
