Congratulations Colleen!

Earlier this week we got the opportunity to view a screening of Nanny McPhee, which opens August 20th at cinemas, and it was a total journey. Firstly I have to add that viewing a screening with my kids is the ultimate of proud moments of a blogging career. My girls feel super proud at seeing seats for us with the press. Back to the movie. There were several firsts for us. Since my girls are used to animation and that too preschool type animation we have been trying to get them to watch “people” shows or movies with no luck.

I was excited that they were going to experience this for the first time. Since I have not seen the first Nanny McPhee (yeah shame on me but I have still not seen the 2nd Sex And The City movie too – life has been busy) this was a whole new experience for me. Being too busy to prep myself, or my girls, for the movie we went in for a surprised treat. The visuals, although not 3 rd, were so stunning that it was scarily amazing at times.  It seemed always in your face. Besides having to deal with a first “humans” movie, it was also a first with magic too (Disney does not count – though those princess movies have some scary evil characters).

I admit to being a tad concerned, and while I did not voice them the dad constantly asked me “what age was this for?” about the wizardry. I kept wondering whether Nanny McPhee’s closeup of her face may be a bit scary but there was no screaming so I figured I was in the safe. The scene where the mom feels so disillusioned and tired of scrambling to make things work and keep her wits about her felt too close to home. I guess we could all use a Nanny McPhee in our home, although the nanny I use on occasion is just as wonderful (and magical).

The story of hope and working together was not lost on my girls. When I asked them if they liked Nanny I really expected a “No” based on her looks (they are 3 and 5 so I would not have been shocked at it) but they surprised me by telling me they liked her and what she did for the family. And just maybe the end may be surprising too. Go watch it to find out.

Oh and …
