Sharing Silly Banz And Doing Good! #77kidsNEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | July 17, 2010 at 9:11 pm
So when the discussion surrounding our efforts in Boston to put together an event by 77Kids (the children’s department at American Eagle) and The Motherhood I was still at Evo in Utah. While trying to hash and rehash ideas as to what we could do as we joined other mom bloggers, 77 of them, Do Good at the same time all around the country I was glad that we eventually decided to keep it simple as I was trying to catch up when I got back. Doing good is something that may come naturally to many but when you life is peppered with struggles the only person you want to be good to is yourself.
Seriously, think about it. It is really difficult to focus on making it better when you don’t have it. Then I got a good job and got bored but figured it paid well so I decided to volunteer in my spare time to make up for the excitement I craved in my job. Doing everything from being a “big sister” to painting, feeding, elder care, working with abused kids, gardening, chaperoning and more gave me the satisfaction of learning about the new society (and country) I have begun to call home.
Then I had kids and with a few complications thrown in I never made a separate focus for my kids to focus on doing random acts of good. Sure we do little snippets of “doing good” in our regular life but I liked the focus of actually “Doing Good”. We handed out out Silly Banz with the message to share. I tried to go one further and not just give each kid a pack. When I saw a group I gave only a few and asked them all to share. Truthfully I could see the surprise in kid’s faces. I guess most kids today are used to having their own stuff, including my kids, so it was nice to see them open a bag and share. My 3 year old girl was with me and I love that we weathered the rain to bring a few surprised smiles.
