Ziprider – It Is A Scream! No Really It Is!

NEWS | | June 29, 2010 at 10:40 am

There have been so many adventures at Evo Conference (where I was giving a keynote speech) that I have been trying to wrap my head around them and finally decided I will write a separate post on each so that no post is too long to read and also you can choose what you want to read about. This blog is about news about also as a personal diary that I want to record amazing (and sometimes not so amazing) things in my life.

I had to mention my zipride experience. Let me tell you firstly – I DON’T like rollercoasters. I take height easily it is speed at a height that bothers me. Yes I have done most of the crazy rollercoasters and free-fall rides but have always been terrified. So when my friends were excited about it at the Evo closing party, I was not. I am game to try stuff but my insides were screaming in fear. On the other end I was tired of becoming a boring mommy. It was that feeling that compelled me to do the Up movie promo ride in the chair held by helium balloons.

I was psyching myself to do it but was thrilled when they told us tickets were all out for the ride. I bumped into a friend who had tickets but we had to use them right then and there. I was with another group of friends who were also anxious but game. We rode to the top of the mountain in those seats talking of our fears and giving each other supportive speeches.

We get to the top and I figure I am just going to do it! I decide I can scream my lungs off and then it would be over. Then I got braver and figured if I put myself through it I needed some proof. So I carry my flip camera. I was so unprepared when they opened the gates to let me in, I kept asking the guy if he had buckled me in. The 1st part was deathly scary – I felt like I was falling. Knowing that the top speed this ride reaches was 50 miles per hour is pretty scary stuff indeed. I screamed so if you are watching the video be warned!

And then something happened. I started to like it. No, I mean it. It felt like I was flying and I was one with the earth (or should that be sky?). I loved it. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Stay tuned for more #evoconf posts!

*Major thanks to the beautiful, and pregnant, Christine for that picture and for holding our bags too. Also to my partners in crime Lucrecer and Lorraine
