It’s Memorial Day!

I was caught having a day out with my family but without a camera (I know bad blogger). I happened to walk across Boston Common and the sight of thousands of flags staked in the ground caught my eye. Man I wish I had my camera, but I did capture a little in the video.

Upon investigation I found there were 20,000 flags, one for every fallen soldier and sailor hailing from Massachusetts that died since World War 1. The flags were a beautiful yet sad sight in remembrance of those gone. As my daughter tried to hold a flag and I stopped her thinking that that flag was someone who lost their life. Someone who had family waiting for them. Someone who gave up everything as he/she fought for what they believed in.

If nothing else these men and women who sacrificed everything deserve our undying respect. Happy Memorial day and as you hold together your family and friends near and dear, spare a thought for those that made it possible.
