My Cheap Date Challenge!

I was approached by Blockbuster Express to have a cheap date movie night. Since at one time I used to rent movies from Blockbuster I could never associate the words cheap and Blockbuster in the same sentence. Even if I did manage to get something cheaper it would be 100 years old that no-one would be interested in watching anyhow. Enter Blockbuster Express and I was amazed to hear that the movies are all a $1 – yessiree one dollar! Oh and don’t believe for a minute that hot latest titles are not included, because everything is. Not only that I can check whether it is in stock in the kiosk location online before getting there and also rent it online and pick it up there. Neat right?

Well with the offer code of rent one get one free it meant 2 movies for a $1. You can use the special code too 355G13B just type it in and you are set to go and it can be used through the end of March 2010. I was on a roll. So here was my strategy: Get a movie for the kids, ply them with food and set them off early to bed. I got Princess and The Frog for them. Sure they watched it already but that would mean they could focus slightly less and feel sleepy easier. So far so good, they are all sound asleep. Mission 1 complete.

Since only $1 (and 6 c for MA state tax) was used towards the entertainment I wanted to make sure I got something yummy. Having just been away for a few days I was not thrilled to cook dinner since I did not want to jeopardize the success of Mission one aka I-don’t-wanna-wake-the-kids-up. After a few days in LA I was dying for something Indian so my menu was simple Chai (or rather Masala chai – spiced tea), samoosas (appetizer like snacks with a fried crispy triangular stuffed with spicy filling – this case jalapeno and cheese), Mango Lassi (mango smoothie), dhokla (steamed rice and lentil cake with a touch of chilli, mustard seeds and coriander).

The movie of the night ” The Morgans”. Being a die-hard fan of Sarah Jessica Parker and managing to withstand the bumbling antics of Hugh Grant makes this light entertainment for the night. With kids you never know when there will be some adventure at night so when you fork out so little for entertainment you feel less pressured if things go awry.

Code is valid thru 3/31/2010. When you rent a movie at the regular price, you’ll receive the first night’s rental on a second movie FREE. Extra night charges and taxes apply. May not be combined with any other offer. Rental terms and conditions apply. Not valid at Blockbuster store locations.

Disclosure: I received a gift card to use towards my cheap date!
