Mommy Niri’s Chai!MY VIEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | November 8, 2009 at 9:37 pm
If you are a tweeter or actually know me in real life you will know there are a few things I will trade my soul for and a good chai, make that a good masala chai is one of them. Firstly let me clear some (funny and) ridiculous notions about chai out there. “Chai” means “tea” in hindi, that’s right just your basic old tea. So any tea can be called “chai”. The spicier version you may have tried, termed “chai” at all the hot spots is basically masala chai or spicy tea, or spicy chai, take your pick. So when our friends at Starbucks says “chai tea” it sounds silly since it is like saying “tea tea”. Anyway now that I have that off my back, I just wanted to share a simple and quick way I make chai everyday.
Just note there is an elaborate way but this is what I do each day so I make it simple. So if you ever want to make Mommy Niri just suggest a chai date. Oh and don’t make a chai date and forget (I hope Aparna, of Parentella, is reading this)!
