Time To Play Reveals Top 16 Toys for 2009

I recently attended the Time To Play event in New York, where the Top 16 toys were going to be revealed. I knew nothing more of the event except for that snippet of information. Anything that screams “toys” though has me as an ardent listener. I was greeted by the registration guys with an empty bag and as I looked back at them puzzled they told me it was for a gift suite. Still confused I continued inside to a huge exhibition from almost every toy manufacturer and a press area. By the looks of the camera setup I knew that some serious media were invited and when I saw the folks from Wall Street Journal I knew that toy business was serious business.
As we listened to the list of toys making the cut by the Toy Guy and Jim Silver , I was surprised by some and thrilled by others. It was great to see Zhu Zhu pets make the cut, but felt the Candyland was made with a little too weak material to last. The Dora tween doll I think made it in with all the hype it created, I was not impressed – Dora in heels looked too weird for me.
Just before lunch I decided to follow my friends and headed to the gift suite, which was basically tables of toys which we were allowed to take home. Errr, early Christmas anyone? Got to love nice surprises (especially since times are a little tough these days at the Mommy Niri household). Here is the list, so let the shopping (or saving) begin!

Wow, what a cool event. It looks like you guys have fun! Hmm, I hope a “top toys” list like this is around once Chase is old enough to actually play with toys (as opposed to just putting them in his mouth). Glad you all had a good time, wish I was there!
What are “Printies?” I’ve never heard of that. I am NOT pleased with this new Dora. I do not think that she represents Dora’s target audience which seems to be 2-6 yrs old. This new Dora looks far too much like a Britney Spears wanna-be tween. My 4yr old adores Dora but she will not be getting this new version.
If you’re really sick of Dora and want another toy with multicultural influence, consider the Gazooly, a new language education toy. Learn more at http://www.f09b04t03.info
