A Visit To The Circus!

This past week we went to the opening night at the Ringling Bros And Barnum and Bailey circus courtesy of Mom Central (be sure to use the coupon MOM to get discount tickets) and the Feld Entertainment group. I was highly anxious about taking my kids to the circus. You see, they had never ever been to the circus, in fact we barely hit night events since it is normally past their early bedtime (hey a mama has to blog sometime, right?). I was also anxious about the larger than life characters and animals, since Halloween itself has been a trifle emotional. I have always had my doubts about care of animals in any entertainment industry but had received a flier about the care animals were getting at this circus. I had decided to bit the bullet and see what my kids thought.

At the pre-show where we got to mingle on the stage with the performers and I could see the kids slightly overwhelmed but as we got back to our seats I could see them settle in to have fun. It had been years since I had been to the circus and also I had never been to a circus in the USA (only in South Africa) so I guess in some ways it was a first time for me. After we settled in and resigned ourselves to the fact that (very expensive) fries was going to be for dinner we waited to be dazzled. The kids stared in amazement at all the flashing lights and sounds. Sometimes scary, sometimes enchanting. I tried hard to imagine what it must be like for a kid, everything larger than life and maybe a tad overwhelming but also entrancing. I doubt there is much room to process one act before another starts. Someone flying in the air, while another does a balancing act on the animals while the clowns try to fill in the gaps with humor. A little disappointing were some of the comedic acts which I was sure was not really family fun. Overall though it was an amazing experience.

We stayed for as long as we could while the kids stifled yawn after yawn, until we realized we need to head home, with bodies weary but memories sweet.

We were there openenig night as well. (Thank you again for the tickets!) Altogether, an amazing experience for the children. I just wish it were a bit more affordable. After eating dinner and buying souvenirs for three children, we spent nearly 200.00… Again, we may not have been able to afford this, had we not been chosen for the contest :) A few parts of the show, I felt a bit inappropriate, however the kids belly laughs helped me to overlook it. All in all, I would do it again in a heart beat. We really appreciate everything you do Mommy Niri!

I hate to be a wet blanket, but whatever they said in the flyer about how well they treat their animals must have been a lie. I have heard about the horrible abuses their poor animals undergo.

Sorry for being so negative, but I feel strongly about animal rights and I think this circus is evil.

On a more positive note, I’m glad you had a good time! :)
