Back To School: Win Healthy (GoPicnic) Ready Made Meals | 5 Winners with 4 Products each
CONTESTS, HEALTH, PRODUCTS | Mommy Niri | August 25, 2009 at 6:45 pm
*** CONTEST CLOSED ***
Congratulations Lisa, Lia, Heather Goldsmith, Barbara Wright & Lisa Taylor
Ready Made Meals
There is nothing fancy about packaged foods. Its an old tradition. The GoPicnic meal is ready to eat right from the box with absolutely no need for refrigeration or special preparation.
Vegetarian Meals
Whenever I am in a hurry, I take one of these meal boxes for my lunch. Given my dietary restrictions (pure vegetarian), I no longer have to force feed myself with fries, high-carb bagels or cheeseburgers for lunch (It is so frustrating to overly explain myself every time I look for vegetarian meal. Some times it feels like veggies are delicacies. Folks who are here for winning the prize, I will spare you this time from my gazillion stories. Watch out for my new book – My Experiences as a Vegetarian by Mommy Niri).
GoPicnic caters well to folks with special needs or allergies – Kosher, Vegan, Halal, Gluten-Free and many more. Each food item is individually sealed and labeled with its ingredients, so it is possible for those with very specific dietary requirements to tailor their meal accordingly. Overall, its worth a try.
- caters to folks with allergies – gluten free, soy free, egg free, fish free, shell fish free etc.
- peanut free – GoDelight uses Sunflower spread instead of peanut butter
- low in sodium – perfect for flights (Now you don’t have to buy those salty pretzels for $5)
- perfect for storage – no need for refrigeration
- nicely packaged to take for picnic, flight or your office
Over the past few months Mommy Niri has been covering healthy food topic through her posts - Alliances against Childhood Obesity, Organic Candy, Kids Snack Bar, Getting Kids To Eat Veggies, and Passing on My (Veg) Prejudices. Now, a special giveaway for Mommy Niri readers.
Mommy Niri readers can use the discount code GPMOMS to get 20% off the price at GoPicnic

I usually feel sick after eating fast food. I don’t like to eat it if I have to. I prefer to go places like Robeks (a smoothie place) and it’s fast but healthy.

I used to love fast food, but after I started dieting this spring I’ve moved away from it. I hadn’t had any for a few months and I had some Pizza Hut pizza on a special occasion and I seriously got violently ill. Once in a while I’ll get 1 pretzel from Aunt Annies, that’s about it.
We don’t necessarily eat healthily, but I, at least, attempt to keep an eye on how much I consume per meal. We still eat fast food, mostly on nights when I won’t be able to cook in time for me to eat before my cut-off (7:30 or 8pm).
Almost all fast-food reataurant meals are not very healthy. The main exception I can think of is a sandwich shop where you can order your meal exactly as you want it.

I am trying to lose some weight, so I don’t eat any more fast food. I love different kind of salads and my family now it them with me! Usually we make our Saturdays like healthy-meals-day.
healthy and fast food usually do not belong unless you are at the frmers market buying fresh fruit.
I love frebch friens and burgers yet my stomach hurts and feel like I want to toss the cookies after eating
Healthy fast food can be difficult. My favorite, healthy quick menu is a peanut butter roll-up. Basically it is natural peanut butter spread on a whole grain tortilla and rolled up
Yummy and portable.
If I can’t avoid eating fast food I always order a kid’s meal for myself because the portions are smaller. Then we end up with an extra toy to share with friends.

i try to feed my kids organic every chance i get. when we do eat fast food, we skip the fries and sodas.

I am sure I love all the wrong foods but since I am diabetic it doesn pay me to eat them. I need healthy food. At lunch I don’t like to eat a lot and these GoPinic meals would be just the thing for me. No preparation and mess to clean up and healthy too. Thanks for the chance to WIN!
I am an e-mail subscriber and want the extra entry in this “healthy” giveaway. Thanks
I find it hard to find a healthy fast food. I typically end up going to a sandwich place like subway and getting a veggie and cheese sub. Occassionally I can find a local mexican fast food place that has healthier soft tacos and burritos but it tends to be much more expensive than the unhealthy places.

I gave up fast food two years ago. The first month was hard but after that I haven’t missed it at all. I feel so healthy and so much better about myself now.
i’ve learned that if i have pre-cut fruits and veggies in my fridge i will grab them and snack instead of chips and candy, but if i have prepare them in any way i will reach for the junk instead.

I love fast food, but I have to watch how much I get and what I get when I go. Most places do post nutrition charts and believe it or not, I do read them.
Unfortunately I grew up eating fast food like 5 times a week, now I eat it so rarely it is a treat.

I barely ate fast food growing up in a West Indian household. I do however let my kids have it from time to time. I can’t wait for your book to come out because you have peaked my interest!

i think you really have to watch the fastfoods so called “healthy options” alot of them have more cal. than a burger !
i do like subways sandwiches and if you get them from the “jared Fav.” with fat-free condiments i dont feel to bad

We pretty much avoid fast food but certain places, like natural cafe are actually very good and healthy.

I’m not big on fast food–especially for my kids. I like restaurants like Fazoli’s, where the food is still fast but everything isn’t fried.

I eat salads from McDonalds. They have low fat Newman’s Own dressings too. I also keep nuts on hand for quick snacks.
Subway has a wonderful roasted chicken sandwhich that I get with lots of fresh veggies.

Years ago, I would treat the kids to a Happy Meal at McDonald’s. I don’t think I’ve allowed them to eat fast food in almost 10 years, that’s how educated I’ve become about nutrition. I can’t think of any place I’d stop along the road to get a healthy fast food meal. That’s why I need to win, so we have GoPicnic meals to take along!

My kids love fast food, and it always makes me cringe. Even with the “healthy choices” available, it’s usually something that really doesn’t seem all that healthy…or doesn’t fill them up…or isn’t something they’d like. I personally will usually get a salad…but even those aren’t nearly as nice as you can just make at home. These packs, however, really do look good!

my son is type one diabetic, that has made eatting out a challange when everyone says Pizza we say Pooy when they say happy meals we say “Really? come on” everything is so fatty and salty and has HUGE carbs for such little amounts.. and they are not fast 20 mins in line to get something heated under a lamp? not us.. for us the diabtese has been alomst a goos thing we all eat so much better now but going on pickniks or school outting .. ouch that is hard..
i don’t have any specific health reasons, i just hate all the junk they serve in fast food places. this sounds like a great way to have a nutritious meal on the go
If I know we will be traveling for awhile or out. I will pack healthy snacks and sandwiches for us and the kids. It tastes better than eating out and better for you and great on the wallet
Thank you for the chance

My little guy is allergic to egg white proteins so it prevents me from getting lazy and depending on fast food. There are very few foods he can eat in restaurants at all. So, we’re able to keep him on whole foods for almost everything all the time. And, since I made his baby foods from whole foods, his palate craves it.
Of course, he’s never met a piece of chocolate he didn’t like but that’s another story.
I’ve found that eating organic food helps with a LOT of body problems including weight loss. So I definitely want to win some organic meals!
We try to eat healthy, but I don’t make a big deal out of it. I try low fat and fat-free stuff, and if they like it, great, if they don’t, I try something else. We eat fast food occasionally, but my kids are just as happy with my homemade meals as they are with junk food, so that works out really well.

We prefer home cooked meals but sometimes that’s just feasible at our house with everyone’s various schedules. I detest Burger King and have never had Taco Bell in my life and never intend to but there is a time and a place for fast food. I hope to continue to learn new healthy options at fast food places though.

We do NOT eat fast food! It’s worth it to take a little extra time to pack something healthy.
We have been trying to eat healthier as a family and have not been out for fast food in almost a year.
Making better choices (more fresh fruits and vegetables) for us has been a much wiser decision.
Thank you so much for the chance to win.

We rarely eat fast food (1 every month or so). With the exception of the cheap toys, even my kids don’t like it. We pack healthy snacks and meals.
Ok sometimes it is easy to just pick up something at a fast food restaurant…but we end up paying for it. If we eat out a lot, all of us pack on the pounds.
We like to eat at Subway. We get the Veggie Delite (2.5 grams of fat)
or Oven Roasted Chicken Breast sub (4.5 grams of fat).
I’ve got my fast food considerably out of my diet! I’ve realized that not only is not healthy, it’s also become expensive!
We don’t buy much fast food. I have Crohn’s Disease and can’t eat it. I don’t like the kids to have it since its so unhealthy and expensive so we usually eat home cooked meals.
When my family eats fast food, I take forever looking through the menu just to find something decent but it’s hard…I think if you go out to fast food you’d better only do it once in awhile and then it won’t matter if you overindulge! I do love Subway tho, I always try and get my veggies in, I love them!

We are trying to eat healthier. It just is not easy. Healthier usually takes longer. I would say we have 2-3 good healthy meals a week. THank you

We actually had a very healthy fast food restaurant with a drive through even! They had homemade soups and huge veggie sandwiches and fresh bread. It was great and I wish they had lasted but are sadly out of business now.
It is amazing how a large portion of the population is trying to eating healthier and yet resaurants are still not getting the hint unless you want a salad – salads get old and aren’t always that healthy!
We try really hard to be healthy and limit fast food as much as we can. Mannnn why does it have to taste so darn good though.

The kids are just getting back to school and these are so healthy. I’d love to win them. We cut out what we can to be healthier and I only buy whole grain/wheat bread for sandwiches.
I’m not veg anymore (used to be lacto/ovo veg) but when I was I ate these great roasted veg & bean burritos at a local Mexican food place. We’ve since moved, but I loved that!
We are struggling at my house to incorporate more healthy eating habits – it certainly is not easy but we are trying. We average three healthier meals per week and we are trying to do better than that!
I order salads at fast food and only visit with the kids once in a long while.
We eat vegetables at lunch & dinner, drink juice instead of soda and have cut down on having fast food.

It’s hard sometimes- we try by packing our own lunches etc- I make bento when I have the time/energy but let’s face it like everyone else sometimes I just toss in the pre-packaged easy things.

My experience with healthy fast food was this awesome place in New Orleans called “Wrap and Roll.” They had the greatest wraps and instead of a side of fries, you got a really nice salad. Unfortunatly they closed. It’s a real shame, there wasn’t enough demand.

I make sure I keep a few staples in my house for quick go to lunches, rather than stopping at unhealthy fast food restaurants. I always keep whole wheat tortillas and cheddar cheese in the house for the easiest quesadillas. Sometimes whole grain waffles and peanut butter and jelly makes for a twist on lunch, that’s fast and healthy.
Microwaveable soup has been my shelf stable healthier (and cheaper) alternative to fast food when on the go. Many work locations have microwaves available.

Many fast food places have websites that list nutritional information about their menu items. You can make healthy choices before you go to a fast food place.
I also, am a strict vegetarian, and my fiance is a very sensitive Celiac. These meals look incredible! It is so difficult to find food when we go on day trips, it always involves a frantic trip to the store before we go with our fingers crossed.

We dont do fast food anymore, because Quinn is allergic to Peanuts AND tree nuts. I dont trust any fast food maker, and if we ever do eat out, its only at Olive Garden (thankfully we all like pasta)
Living with an allergy kid is one of the most difficult things. It really impacts every facet of your life, and not just what we put in our mouths. We dont do gatherings where food is involved, no big easter egg hunts, no trick or treating, and we cant just grab a “meal on the go” when we are running late.

I am a pretty strict vegetarian and my 5 year old daughter rarely eats any meat herself. Trying to make healthy but kid friendly meals gets tiresome sometimes.Add to the fact that some of her classmates have food allergies and the list of things I can send in her lunchbox gets smaller. These would be perfect to just drop into her Tinkerbell lunchbox when I am not inspired to make something early in the morning!

I limit my family’s fast food. Most of the time I buy Subway. I check the menus for information about the products.
It used to be very difficult to eat healthy fast food. But in recent years with so many people trying to eating healthier and more people becoming vegetarian, most places now offer things if one looks hard enough. Even most fast food restaurants now offer salads, some of which are quite yummy. Plus most places offer a grilled instead of fried sandwich if one isn’t vegetarian. McDonald’s has lowfat frozen yogurt as well as yogurt parfaits. Just have to search hard! Thanks.
Our family has eliminated eating fast food entirely except for the occasional ice cream treat. Your blog was the first place I have ever seen the Go Picnic products. They look awesome!
we try to have healthy snack options at home for the kids. Luckily both kids like most fresh fruits and vegetables. Yogurt, cheese and milk are big fav’s at our house. If we go to the store they can pick one item to buy, but they have to tell me if it’s healthy or not and why. The oldest usually get applesauce and the youngest wants yogurt.
I like to make sandwhiches with wheat bread and low fat mayonnaise
Healthy fast food is so hard to do. It seems like whenever most of the larger fast food chains add a decent salad to their menu it doesn’t stay long. We typically head to Subway if we want something a bit healthier.
