When I received an invite from Katja to the Diane Birch’s CD Release party in NYC, it was a no brainer that I was going to join in. Yes, the drive would be a daunting one but I am no shrinking violet when it comes to adventures. After finally getting to the City Winery, where it was held, I got to mingle with all my favorite bloggers: Katja Presnal (Skimbaco Lifestyle), Barbara Jones ( One2One Network), Onico Cupido (Blasian Baby), Kimberly (Mom In The City), Lindsay Maines (RockandRollMama), Paula Bruno (ChicksAndBalances) and John Andrews.

I had not got my copy of the CD yet so I did not know what to expect. After getting a bit of background from Lindsay about Diane’s background (growing up in several countries including South Africa since her dad was a missionary) I immediately felt a connection. I mean being a fellow South African the kinship would already make me biased. Then I heard more of the future of Diane and it amazed me further. Diane is donating money with the purchase of her albums to the charity you can choose. She has listed 5 charities to select from including Autism Speaks (read my series on Autism in April). Then the music started and I thought her past was interesting, her future plans inspiring, but could it get better than that? When I heard her sing the answer was a resounding, YES! This confident and strong voice could not come out of one so young, but yet it did. The music was so beautiful it literally took my breath away. Ok, granted my recent music exposure would not make me a fair person to critic (since all I hear is kiddie music) but the truth is most recent music don’t have much allure to even make me bother.

You have to hear Diane to understand the maturity that oozes out of her voice. I am so glad I did!
