Writer Christine Hohlbaum’s Book On SAHM Is A Winner!

Although reading is a great love of mine, it has not been a pastime I have indulged in for the past few years (parenting and children books don’t count). Truth is I have yet to see a book that can entice me to bribe my kids to give me a moment or give up my mindless tv/internet browsing I subscribe to in the nocturnal hours. Christine’s Hohlbaum’s book “Sahm I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe” had the title to grab me enough to change my mind. I mean any book written boldly about SAHM (How passionate am I about SAHM? Read my “What Not To Say To SAHM” post to find out) has to be a keeper, right?

Well, after my rescue attempt of the baby girl’s lost doll – read more on “Where Is My Baby” , I stopped by a Starbucks to enjoy a chai latte and read a few lines of her book (it was a long drive back home anyway). It was just supposed to be a few pages but I could not put it down. I know people around me raised eyebrows as I unashamedly laughed until tears ran down my home. Christine was detailing her life as a SAHM, and with the added spin of moving to Europe as well. She pulled no punches and I felt liberated reading about the antics of her 2 and 4 year old (another thing we have in common).

I nodded my head as she relayed her calculating napping time before she started her next task, and sighed in understanding as all plans got blown out of the water. I loved her brave analysis of her post kids body (I still need that strength). There is no gripping plot or thieving scoundrels in her book, just a plain and honest diary. A diary that is so similar to mine, except I don’t get yummy organic milk from the farm next door.

What is even more exciting that her book is Christine herself. So personable and real that it is downright scary. Keep an eye out for her writing; you will be glad you did. Read more at her website at http://PowerofSlow.org and watch out for her next book The Power of Slow: 101 Ways to Save Time in Our 24/7 World, which will be out in November 2009. Reserve your copy now. Don’t forget to read Sahm I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe
