Sarah Ferguson At The Today’s Mom Book BashNEWS | Nirasha Jaganath | April 27, 2009 at 8:29 pm
It was a surprise to win an invitation to the VIP mommy blogger breakfast to celebrate the launch of the Today’s Mom book. The book, by the Emmy winning Producers Mary Ann Zoellner and Alicia Ybarbo Zimmerman of the NBC’s successful Today’s Show, has been an effort of the entire team of the Today’s Show. In fact you can see advice and anecdotes from Ann Curry, Al Roker, Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera scattered throughout the book. I (ecstatically) agreed to go knowing that Boston to New York for a breakfast would be a challenge. While my mind flitted between logistics (should I drive or take a train – I did both) and excitement (I get to be at a party without balloons and screaming kids) I began to wonder who the surprise celebrity guest they promised us was.
This was going to be my first night away from home had I left the night before as planned (the only night away in my 4 years as a mom was the one delivering my 2nd child in the hospital) but I could not yet bring myself to do it. Instead I headed out sleepy (after getting just 3 hours sleep) to New York. I was thrilled to take as my guest my friend Kit August, whom I always have the most adventurous times with. I was surprised to get to meet Katja Presnal, a top blogger in my world and others. The party was already a winner in my mind. I was concerned that the celebrity guest was going to be some famous singer that I had no idea of (considering my exposure to current music and movies were limited to the kiddie channels) but lo and behold the shock I got at seeing Sarah Ferguson walk left me speechless.
Let it be told that I am not a huge fan of royalty, but I have always been a fan of the Duchess of York. This has been for 2 main reasons, how real she has been and also been on the Weight Watcher program I know the inspiration she offered. Well hearing her speak added another reason, her humility at her experiences. She spoke, from the heart, to each one of us, just like she was another mommy friend, well maybe a mommy friend with the secret service in tow. What a day to remember!
