Disney’s Matinee

EVENTS, REVIEWS | | March 1, 2009 at 8:22 pm

This week sees the launch of a special program, the Disney Matinee, in 2 cities Boston and Dallas. Lucky for this Bostonion I managed to speak to Jason Brenek, (Senior Vice President Digital Cinema & Cinema Programming for the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group) while he was in Boston to promote this pilot program. This is how Disney movies were meant to be seen, with all the magic and melody of the originals. Although targeted to children, any fan of Disney would be (truly) crazy to miss this viewing.

The 4 programs being shown are:

Princess Program (March 6-12) — Dress in your favorite Princess ball gown! Take part in a Sleeping Beauty Curtsey School and a sing-along of “Part of Your World,” the beloved song from Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Little Mermaid.” Enjoy the feature presentation of “Mulan.”

Adventure Program (March 27-April 2) – Play the Monkey Dodgeball game. See the short film “Test Pilot Donald” and the full-length feature “Tarzan.”

Motormania Program (April 17-23) – Play the Motormania Race game and enjoy the short film “Mater and the Ghost Light” and the hit film “Cars.”

Pre-School Program (May 8-14) – Take part in a “Follow the Leader” sing-along and sing-along parade. Watch the classic short film “Tugboat Mickey” and the feature presentation “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”

Each program has a similar format: an onscreen host (familiar to Disney Channel viewers) guides (and enchantingly excites) kids to a highly interactive state which is then followed by a short feature before continuing to a full feature film.

Take a look to see which program takes your kid’s fancy (and yours). Heck at the cheap pricing of tickets around $5, see them all. Find more information at disney.com/matineeclub.

The Princess Program kicks off this week so go dressed in your gowns and finery.

To celebrate Disney’s Matinee this launch (and Mommy Niri’s launch on her own domain) Mommy Niri is offering several Disney DVDs throughout the launch. Follow the link to the Mommy Niri Disney Launch Contest to get yours today.
