What Will You Be When You Grow Up?Uncategorized | Nirasha Jaganath | October 17, 2008 at 9:16 pm
My 3 year and I were reading Dora’s “What will you be when you grow up?” book and we were looking at the various options. There were many choices to be made, like a train driver, a doctor, a clown, a musician etc. I looked at her and asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, and the answer she gave totally surprised me. She said “I want to be a good J (I am using “J” in place of her name). It is so ironic yet heartwarming that she gave this response. As I recall a while back when my family was gushing at how smart she was (she can read fluently) and mentioned that she has a bright future, I added that to me the most important thing was that she be a good person. You can clearly see, especially when kids are in trouble for misbehaving, that they do earnestly try to be good, and it bothers them when we think they are not. It is still wonderful to hear that she wants to be good,… even if it is easier said than done! What do you want to be when you grow up?
