Mommies Outrun Me !

Back in 2002, I moved to Arlington, Mass. Somewhere I picked up a pamphlet for the town day race – just 5 days before the event. Since it was a local event, I decided to take part – what the heck. I knew I could surely drag myself to the 4.4 mile finish line.
Back then the race would start from the Arlington High School on Mass Ave going towards Lexington and turn onto bike trail at the townline back to the school. Overall more than 200 people showed up. While pros stood in the front and mommies pushing strollers stood in the back, I chose to stand somewhere in the middle.
It was good running the first half but the second half was a bit too much. Determined to reach the finish line, I turned to the slow cruise mode. As I was reaching the final stretch, I noticed some mommies pushing strollers over took me. Wow! That is good running mommies.
My timing of 35 minutes for the race made me feel a little better – firstly I completed the race with no walking and secondly it was 8 minutes a mile. However being outrun by mommies did not feel too good. I still remember it.
Would you feel the same way or am I the only one?
